Silhouette - Art Deco 10K Gold Sardonyx Hard Stone Carved Cameo Ring. This exquisite ring is crafted from 10K gold, hallmarked 10K, and a makers mark BB. The ring also has initials of the original wearer engraved in script, that read T.A.M. Featuring a genuine natural carved sardonyx cameo, antique styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring showcases a beautiful hand carved black and white cameo of a classical bust. The cameo is beautifully carved, and the features of the lady are still well defined. She has her wavy hair worn up, and she is wearing draped clothing. The shoulders of the ring display exquisite draped gold-work. Which leads to a polished and smooth shank, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. This Art Deco era cameo would make a very special gift for that special someone, or for yourself to enjoy and cherish for many years to come.

The ancient Sumerians created the first cameos, often used as seals. The ancient Greeks also used cameos as currency, and many of these pieces have been found in archaeological excavations. Cameos continued to be popular during the Roman Empire and were often used as signet rings.

Cameos were used to commemorate personages, as in ancient days; for example, in 16th-century England, cameos were made with the head of Queen Elizabeth to celebrate the victory over the Spanish Armada. In the 18th and 19th centuries, cameos adorned such jewelry as diadems, belts, brooches, and bracelets.

The first person or civilization to discover gold is the Ancient Egyptians. They mined gold in Nubia around 2450 BC. An Egyptian alchemist named Zosimos was the first to find pure gold (24 centuries before Columbus reached the Americas).
