Silhouette - Vintage Victorian Revival Gold Plated Cameo Dangly Earrings. These pretty earrings are crafted from yellow gold plate over metal. Featuring two cameos (resin), and Victorian revival styling. The gallery on these earrings showcase a gold bezel with a delicate twist design, which are set with beautiful black and white cameos. The cameos are portraits of a lady, which showcase two different profiles. The surmounts are a ball and post design, which are attached to a chain, allowing the dangly earrings to have movement. The earrings are for pierced ears, and feature secure butterfly backs. These vintage earrings look wonderful when worn. They are feminine and delicate, yet quite dramatic with the beautiful black and white silhouettes.

History: The cameo is the converse of the intaglio, which consists of an incised, or sunken, engraving in the same class of materials. Cameos exist in large numbers from the early Sumerian period (c. 3100 bc) to the decline of Roman civilization, from the Renaissance, and from the Neoclassical period in the 18th century.

Cameos are usually made of gemstones such as agate, onyx, or sardonyx, with two layers of contrasting colours with figures carved into one of the layers and projected over the other. Creating a multi-dimensional artwork. Cameos can also be made out of shell, coral, stone lava, glass, or resin.

Gold plating is a method of depositing a thin layer(s) of gold onto the surface of another metal, most often copper or silver, by chemical or electrochemical plating.
