Snowdrops - Vintage 10K Gold Cultured Saltwater Japanese Akoya Pearl 'Bespoke' Pendant & 14K Gold chain. This lovely pendant is crafted from 10K yellow gold, tested. The chain is crafted from 14K yellow gold. The pendant features 3 round cultured saltwater Japanese Akoya pearls, vintage classic styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this pendant is a solid backed, which cups the pearls securely in each setting. The pearls are white in colour, displaying cream overtones. The bale is solid, which supports the gallery perfectly. The pretty pendant has been matched up to a twisted diamond cut chain, which looks perfect with the pendant. This versatile vintage pendant can be worn day or night, and with anything and everything.
Note: Beautiful custom-made bespoke pendant. Vintage pearls are a better quality because the nacre is thicker.
History: Pearls were presented as gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewellery was considered the ultimate status symbol. So precious were the spherical gems that in the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar passed a law limiting the wearing of pearls only to the ruling classes.
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
