Striking - Vintage 10K Gold Purple Sapphire Ring. This wonderful ring is crafted from 10K gold, hallmarked 10K. Featuring one oval cut synthetic purple sapphire, vintage classic styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring showcases a beautiful bezel set purple sapphire, surrounded in a wonderful sculpted gold band. The shank is smooth and polished, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. This vintage unisex ring looks wonderful when worn, truly a great addition to any jewelry collection.

History: The first synthetic sapphire was successfully made in 1873 by the flux method. This was followed shortly by the flame fusion method in 1902. Needless to say, at the turn of the century synthetic gemstones were quickly rising in popularity.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
