History: Rhinestones, also known as "strass" in many European languages, originated from rock crystals near the Rhine River, leading to their name. The history of rhinestones involves the evolution from natural crystals to manufactured glass and then to acrylic, with advancements in technology making them more accessible and affordable.
In 1956: Daniel Swarovski's grandson, Manfred, introduces the Aurora Borealis: an iridescent coating applied to crystal rhinestones that produces a rainbow effect. In collaboration with French fashion designer Christian Dior, the stone is launched into the fashion spotlight, cementing a new era in both industries.
Rhodium plating, a process enhancing jewelry's appearance and durability, gained popularity in the 1930s for cosmetic applications, particularly for white gold and silver, and its continued use after a brief hiatus during WWII.
