Taxco - Vintage Mexican Alpaca Silver Abalone Enamel Flower & Butterfly Bangle Bracelet. This pretty bracelet is crafted from alpaca silver, hallmarked Taxco, Mexico. Featuring genuine abalone, enamel -work, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this bracelet is beautifully inlaid with beautiful abalone, which displays a variation of colors ranging from green, blue, purple, pink, and white. There's also a pretty white enamel flower, which is set against a lovely coppery colored enamel background. The back portion of the bangle is smooth and polished, which allows for a comfortable fit. The latch locks in place securely, and is in perfect working order. This pretty bracelet would make a perfect gift or addition to your vintage jewelry collection.
History: This inner shell is iridescent in a variety of species. Archeologists have found abalone shells in sites around the world, even sites from 100,000 years ago. Native Americans harvested them as many as 12,000 years ago. The shells have been used for decorative items such as jewelry, buttons, and inlay.
What is believed to be the earliest known examples of enamel jewelry were found in Cyprus and date between the 13th and 11th centuries B.C.E. These included gold finger rings with enamel inlay.
Alpaca Silver is an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc. Sometimes called Nickel Silver or German Silver, the usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc.
