The Protected Traveller - Vintage 10K Gold Saint Christopher Pendant & Chain.  This wonderful medallion is crafted from 10K yellow gold, hallmarked 10K . The chain is crafted from 14K Gold fill, hallmarked 14K GF. Featuring Vintage styling and quality workmanship.  The pendant is oval in shape, with lovely detailing of Saint Christoper and an inscription that reads: SAINT CHRISTOPHER PROTECT US.  The medallion has nice deep carvings on the front and a brushed back.  The chain is a solid curb link design, featuring a spring ring clasp in perfect working order.  This Vintage pendant and chain would make a perfect gift for that special someone or wonderful addition to amy jewelry collection. 

Traditionally, St. Christopher is best known as the patron saint of travelers. His legend is that of a tall ferryman in the third century who agreed to carry a child across a river. The heavy child turned out to be Christ with the weight of the world upon his shoulders.

In addition to being the patron saint of travelers, Saint Christopher is believed to protect people from epilepsy, lightning, storms, pestilence, and floods. Many soldiers also pay tribute to Saint Christopher by wearing his medal or carrying a prayer card with them.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Gold-filled is constructed in two or three layers. The core metal is jewelers’ brass. A gold alloy is then bonded to one or both surfaces of the brass core with heat and pressure. Unlike plated (aka electroplated or "dipped") metals, Gold-filled is legally required to contain 5% or 1/20 gold by weight. This 5% is then described by the karatage of the gold alloy. Our Gold-filled items are 14kt gold-filled. 14k Gold-filled products are identified as 14/20 Gold-filled; alternatively, 14kt Gold-Filled is also acceptable. Gold Filled jewelry is much better quality than gold plate.
