Victorian Revival - Vintage 10K Gold Australian Opal Marquise Ornate Ring. This intricate ring is  crafted from 10K yellow gold, hallmarked 10K. The ring features one natural oval cabochon Australian opal, vintage Victorian Revival styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring showcases a beautiful opal, displaying blue, violet and fire orange flashes of color in different light intensities. The shape of the gallery is marquise shaped, and exhibits beautiful Etruscan Victorian revival detail. The shoulders also display this type of detail, which leads down to a smooth and polished shank. This type of shank allows for a comfortable fit, and easy sizing. This vintage ring would make a perfect gift or a wonderful addition to any fine jewelry collection.

History: The ancient Greeks believed opals gave their owners the gift of prophecy and guarded them from disease. Europeans have long considered the gem a symbol of hope, purity, and truth. Opal is considered an October birthstone. Some people think it's unlucky for anyone born in another month to wear an opal.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
