Victorian Revival - Vintage Signed 'Goldette' Gold Plated Intaglio Cameo Layered Necklace. This fantastic necklace is crafted from gold plate over metal.  Featuring a round beveled glass intaglio cameo, round faceted glass gemstones, Victorian styling, and quality craftsmanship. This necklace is made up of several graduated fancy linked chains, which gives the piece a layered look. Hanging from one of the chains is a beautiful ornate surmount , which is set with a gorgeous smoky quartz colored carved Victorian lady intaglio cameo. The other chains also have bezel set smoky quartz colored faceted gemstones, which tie in the splendid cameo beautifully. This Victorian revival vintage necklace is signed, and a high quality piece, which looks absolutely stunning when worn.

History: Goldette jewellery is invariably well made and beautifully designed. The company, founded in 1955 and closed in 1978, favoured Victorian and Edwardian Revival designs, with lots of chains and glass cameos and bezel set glass stations.

The first known gold plating occurred in northern Peru, where Pre-Columbian smiths gilded and silvered copper pieces by electrochemical replacement techniques. During excavations in the late 1980s, archaeologists discovered gold and silver ornamental and ceremonial artifacts dating all the way back to AD 50-300.

As early as 5,000 B.C., cultures such as the Sumerians created jewelry by carving designs into metals like gold, silver and copper. In the middle ages, goldsmiths engraved metalworks to decorate armor, musical instruments and religious objects.
