Glowing Portraits - Vintage Victorian Revival Signed 'CELEBRITY N.Y.' Gold Plated Glass Cameo Crystal Rhinestone Clip-On Earrings. These gorgeous earrings are crafted from gold plate over metal, and signed CELEBRITY R for CELEBRITY N.Y. The earrings feature two oval glass cameos, 34 round cut faceted crystal rhinestones, vintage era Victorian revival styling, and quality craftsmanship. These wonderful earrings showcase beautiful glass cameos in colours of an amber background, and an elegant portrait of a lady in blue, and purple. The cameos are expertly set by sculpted and substantial prongs, which securely hold the cameos in place. The cameos feature an exquisite filigree surround, adorned by glowing hand-set amber crystals. The earrings are for pierced, and non pieced ears, featuring vintage clip-on backings, which are in perfect working order. These vintage era beauties are in the Victorian Revival style, which are immaculate, and wonderful to wear for that special evening out. 

History:  About Celebrity NY ( 1950-1971)- Celebrity made finer costume jewelry from the 1950s through the 1970s in New York City. 

The ancient Sumerians created the first cameos, often used as seals. The ancient Greeks also used cameos as currency, and many of these pieces have been found in archaeological excavations. Cameos continued to be popular during the Roman Empire and were often used as signet rings.

Cameos are usually made of gemstones such as agate, onyx, or sardonyx, with two layers of contrasting colours with figures carved into one of the layers and projected over the other. Creating a multi-dimensional artwork. Cameos can also be made out of shell, coral, stone lava, glass, or resin.

The process was invented in 1805 by Italian chemist Luigi Brugnatelli who plated a very thin gold layer on top of silver. Since then, it has become commonplace in the jewelry world, with many base metals covered in gold, silver, or rhodium.
