Sweet & Charming - Vintage 10K Gold Pink Sapphire Heart Pendant & Chain. This pretty pendant is crafted from 10K white and yellow gold, hallmarked 10k.  Featuring a genuine round cut pink sapphire, classic styling, and quality craftsmanship. This pendant is designed in the form of a heart. It is beautifully designed with an overlapping two toned karat gold frame, and an expertly claw-set vibrant pink sapphire. The chain is woven through the pendant, which gives the appearance of a floating heart. There chain is crafted from 14k yellow gold fill. Origin. Pink sapphires have become more available since new deposits were found in Madagascar in the late 1990s. Until that time, pink sapphires were considered exceptionally rare since they were only found in a few locations around the world, the most popular locations being Sri Lanka, Myanmar and East Africa.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Although the origin of white color gold dates back to 1710, where it was discovered by two alchemists in Germany, it wasn't used widely until much later. White gold as we know it today was really popularised in the 1920s. Although it might seem strange, this luxury material came to popularity in wartime.

n ancient times, gold wire was literally created by rolling: in Ancient Egypt, gold was hammered in to thin, thin sheets, then rolled into a tight or hollow tube, then shaped to create wire jewelry. Over time, however, this rolled gold became “filled” with a base metal, such as brass, thus gold filled with brass.

It actually starts as a base metal and then through a process involving high heat, the solid gold is bonded to the metal in several layers. The gold added must make up at least 5% of the weight to be called gold filled. This process is much better than gold plate. If taken care of gold fill can last a lifetime.
