Enchantment - Vintage Victorian Revival 14K Gold Opal Pendant. This charming pendant is crafted from 14K gold, tested. The chain is gold filled, hallmarked 1/20 14K GF. Featuring one natural opal cabochon, Victorian revival styling, and quality craftsmanship.  The gallery on this pendant showcases a beautiful opal, displaying a variation of colors in different light intensities. Blue, lavender, and pink flashes of color allows this gem to standout beautifully against the rich buttery yellow gold. The pendant is small in scale, however it is not lacking in detail. The gallery exhibits gothic style prongs, gold beading, and a twisted rope border, giving the piece character and beauty. The chain is a belcher design, and features a secure spring ring clasp in perfect working order. This lovely vintage pendant is petite and so versatile, so it can be worn with everything and anything!

History: Many cultures have credited opal with supernatural origins and powers. Arabic legends say it falls from the heavens in flashes of lightning. The ancient Greeks believed opals gave their owners the gift of prophecy and guarded them from disease. Europeans have long considered the gem a symbol of hope, purity, and truth. 

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
