Rarities Antique Jewelry

Oasis - Vintage Sterling Silver Malachite Ring. This unique ring is crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked 925, MADE IN ISRAEL, RODEO. The ring features one natural pear shaped malachite cabochon gemstone, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring is expertly bezel set with a beautiful green malachite, displaying a  emerald and dark green marble-like structure. The malachite is framed by a sterling silver frame. which off-sets the malachite perfectly. The shoulders are a split design, which leads down to a solid adjustable shank.  This vintage ring looks great when worn, and has a southwestern feel even though the ring was made in Israel... hence the makes name, RODEO.

History: Possibly the earliest ore off copper, having been mined in the Sinai and eastern deserts of ancient Egypt from as early as 3000BC, malachite is a green copper carbonate hydroxide. It was used as an eye paint, a pigment for wall painting, and in glazes and the colouring of glass.

The story of silver mining began about 5,000 years ago. Silver was first mined around 3,000 BCE in Anatolia, now located in modern-day Turkey. The precious metal helped early civilizations in the Near East, Ancient Greece to flourish.

The term sterling silver denotes any silver alloy in which pure silver makes up at least 92.5 percent of the content. One theory is that the word sterling comes from the name Easterlings—coiners from east German states brought to England during the reign of Henry II (1154–89) to improve the quality of the coinage.

By about the 12th century in England, silver coins were called "Easterlings," a word later abbreviated to "sterling." In 1300, King Edward I made the definition official by declaring that sterling silver had to be 92.5 percent pure silver and should be marked by "guardians of the craft."
