Violet Must Haves - Vintage 10K Gold Amethyst & Diamond Stud Earrings. These pretty earrings are crafted from 10K yellow and white gold, hallmarked 10k. Featuring two genuine oval cut faceted amethysts, two natural round cut diamonds, classic vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on these earrings are expertly claw-set with beautiful purple amethysts, displaying a violet/pinkish hue. The amethysts are adorned by a white gold bezel-set diamond above each violet gemstone. The earrings are for pierced ears, and feature posts and secure butterfly backs. These vintage earrings are so versatile, therefore they can be worn day or night, with anything and everything! 

History: Ancient Greeks and Romans believed this gemstone could ward off the intoxicating powers of Bacchus and keep the wearer clear-headed and quick-witted. English regalia were decorated with amethysts during the Middle Ages to symbolize royalty. Amethyst jewelry has been found and dated as early as 2000 BC.

The Silk Road Diamonds were first discovered in India and have been traded within since as early as 6^th Century BC. Until the discovery of diamonds in 18^th Century Brazil, India was known to be the sole source of diamonds worldwide.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

White gold was invented in the 19th century by alloying gold with palladium. It became commercially available as of 1912 in Pforzheim, Germany and gained popularity in the mid-1920's as a low-cost substitute for platinum. It is an alloy of gold with copper, zinc, and nickel.
