Watery Depths - Georgian 14K Gold Aquamarine Ring. This breathtaking ring is crafted from 14K yellow gold, tested and confirmed. Featuring a natural oval cut faceted foiled aquamarine, Exquisite styling and quality gold-work. The expertly bezel set aquamarine has the most beautiful aqua blue colour , with a slight grey hue. The aquamarine is a foiled gemstone, in antiquity this technique was used to enhance the gemstone found in early jewelry. The bezel is framed by a stunning gallery of detention scrolls a gold bead work. The band is bold , featuring spilt shoulders, leading down to a polished and smooth shank, which allows for a comfortable fit. The gallery dates from circa 1820, whilst the band was made at a later date. The benefit to the alteration is that the band is solid and substantial. This very special Georgian ring has an Etruscan feel (An ancient civilization in Tuscany known as Etruria )would make a unique engagement ring, gift or addition to any fine jewelry collection.

Note: The Georgian era is a period in British history from 1714 - 1830 , however the time period between 1830 -1837 when William the IV was in power is often considered being part of the Georgian era. The era is named after the Hanoverian Kings George the I, George II, George III and George IV.
Rings before 1850 were completely handmade, gemstones were hand cut, only using tools to make these treasures. Machinery was not used until after 1850.
When John Benjamin from the British Antique Roadshow was asked what his recommendation was for people to collect , his answer was Georgian rings. Here is a lovely example of one. Even though this is a married piece, the workmanship and outcome is stunning!
Foiling is a way of using tinted and silvered copper sheets to enhance the back of the gemstones. Foiled gemstones will have closed backs, therefore the rings can not be immersed in liquid. Although spoiling is used in other era's , foiled gemstones have come to be seen as a signature element in Georgian jewelry and is one of the signs to look for when evalulating a piece.
Comments: Foiled back jewelry must be cleaned by a damp cloth and never immersed in liquid.
