History: Around 500 BC when brass was discovered it was called “mountain copper”, which was composed of naturally occurring copper and zinc mixtures that were melted down to form a golden metal. The ancient Romans used brass primarily for decorative purposes.
Centuries ago, quartz pebbles with a high lead content were found sparkling on the banks of Europe's Rhine River. These beautiful, natural stones were highly coveted and were eventually depleted, inspiring jewelers to create an imitation, aptly named the "rhinestone."
1400-1100 B.C. The beginnings of the brooch can be traced back to the Bronze Age, where early iterations took form in simple pins with circular rings. The unassuming ornaments were often used to secure and fasten cloaks and other garments during the winter.
