The gallery on this pendant is made in the form of a wreath, surrounded by a sea of filigree, which is adorned by sparkling clear paste gems. The pendant has been matched up to a vintage chain, hallmarked 925 for sterling silver. History: Most strass or paste jewelry ranges from the 18th century through about 1850, but the word has come to be used to encompass other finer imitation stones through the early 19th Century.

The term sterling silver denotes any silver alloy in which pure silver makes up at least 92.5 percent of the content. One theory is that the word sterling comes from the name Easterlings—coiners from east German states brought to England during the reign of Henry II (1154–89) to improve the quality of the coinage.
