Sundays Best - Edwardian English 9K Rose Gold Fancy Link Chain. This exquisite chain is crafted from 9K gold, hallmarked 9c (British Hallmark for 9K gold).  The chain features Edwardian era styling, and quality craftsmanship. This chain is comprised of connected gold links, which is known as a belcher design. However there are also interspaced paperclip links and dainty gold balls, which add detail and interest to the piece. The chain has a secure cylinder clasp (a characteristic seen on antique chains) which is in perfect working order. The colour of the gold is a gentle yet rich rose gold color (Not too pink) which is a characteristic of antique rose gold pieces. The necklace can be worn on its own or with your favorite pendant. This Edwardian era chain would make a very special addition to any antique jewelry collection. 

History: Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

The earliest known gold chain is the Funerary Gold Chain, which dates back to around 4500BC and is found in Egypt. It is believed that a high-ranking Egyptian woman wore this gold chain to symbolize her wealth and status. It had three rows of beads and was made up of over 4000 beads, each measuring 5mm in diameter.

The Edwardian era corresponds to the reign of King Edward VII in Great Britain, whose short-lived governance (1901-1910) followed Victoria's long reign and preceded the modern House of Windsor in England. The "Edwardian" style broadly encompasses the years of 1901 through to 1919.
