Walk In The Park - Edwardian 8K Gold Ruby Paste Engraved Pendant & 14K Gold Filled Chain. This lovely pendant is crafted from 8K yellow gold, hallmarked 333 (European hallmark for 8K gold). The chain is crafted from 14K Gold Fill, hallmarked 1/20 14K GF. The pendant features a kite shaped faceted ruby paste gemstone, Edwardian era styling, and quality craftsmanship. This pretty pendant is comprised of a gold engraved kite shaped frame, and a ruby red paste gemstone set in a delicate milgrain decorated gallery, which dangles from the surmount. The bale is ordinal, and perfect for the pendant. The chain is a vintage belcher design, which looks great with the pendant. The chain features a secure spring ring clasp in perfect working order. This Edwardian era pendant looks lovely when worn, truly a versatile and special piece to be enjoyed for years to come. 

History:Paste jewellery dates back to France during the 18th century when a jeweller named Georges Frederic Stras began hand crafting fine-quality Paste jewellery in 1724. He was quickly then appointed as “Jeweller to the King”, and began making Paste jewellery for King Louis XV of France.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

The Edwardian era of the Edwardian period of British history covers the brief reign of King Edward VII, 1901 to 1910, and it extended to the start of the First World War. The death of Queen Victoria in 1901 marked the end of the Victorian era. So therefore Edwardian jewelry dates as Edwardian jewelry from 1901- 1919. 

During the Edwardian era (1901–1915), 8-karat (8K) gold was primarily made and used in Central Europe, especially in Germany, where the "333" hallmark (denoting 333 parts per thousand of pure gold, or 8K) served as a standard for the mass-market economy jewelry sector. In North America the jewelry standard is 10K gold.
